“The center of the outbreak in our region is Bryansk, but the quarantine also applies to the Bryansk, Vygonichsky, Dyatkovsky, Zhukovsky and Karachevsky districts, — stated the deputy head of the Bryansk city administration Stanislav Kosharny. - We are preparing documentation for quarantine measures and the elimination of phytoinfection outbreaks. What does this mean? It means we will inspect all trees in the affected areas and conduct laboratory tests. Affected trees will be cut down at ground level and disposed of.. 

He also stated that the only way to get rid of the insect is to destroy the trees themselves. The "Bryansk Grumbler" countered: a drug has long existed in the US and Canada that kills the disease, not the infected tree. It is injected into the lower part of the tree, and it "recovers." However, Bryansk officials have decided to go their own way. More than 850 ash trees and a number of chestnut trees are infested with the borer, and all of them will be destroyed.

Along with the "ordinary" trees, a unique tree, the 300-year-old "Giant Ash" winner of the "Russian Tree of the Year 2021" competition, will be cut down.
