"They've even made it here!" A high-rise building will be built right in the courtyard of an old building in a Voronezh village.

The area between the houses in the village of Novaya Usman, but in fact—the courtyard—somehow ended up in the hands of the developer. Now residents of the old buildings are wondering whether their homes will survive the construction of the eight-story building.

"The project plan is fine and beautiful, if only it were all on a vacant lot. [But] it's already in a cultivated, green area. Where the playground is, where the recreation areas are. They're planning to cut down 60 trees in their prime," was indignant upon arrival of Vesti Voronezh journalists Valentina Tararykova, a resident of one of the houses.

Trees have already begun to be torn down, leaving the playground on "occupied" land. The developer has promised to replace the playground with a new one, but it's not guaranteed to be publicly accessible, rather than behind the fence of the new residents.

Deputy Head of the Novousmansky District Elena Derganova commented: the developer has all the documents in order, there are no reasons for refusal.

Local residents are perplexed: how did public utilities end up in private ownership, how can dozens of healthy trees be slated for felling, and why even in the village, spot development is unavoidable. "And they've made it here!" "It's business as usual in Voronezh. Wherever they see a 2x2 plot of land, they're building there." "If the old buildings don't survive the construction, they'll build an eight-story building in their place.", they wrote.

Earlier, it was announced that a high-rise building would be built in the Berezovaya Roshcha neighborhood of Voronezh, replacing the promised children's supplementary education center.
