Russia's only transgender politician has withdrawn from the Altai Krai gubernatorial election.

This decision was made by a representative of the Civil Initiative party Julia Alyoshina adopted because of the bill on gender reassignment. 

Alyoshina I am sure that if she participates in the elections, pressure could be put on deputies who could sign for her when passing the municipal filter (502 signatures need to be collected). According to Julia, 19 people were ready to support her.

"Many municipal deputies and village heads expressed their willingness to sign, but later began to refuse, citing the bill on a complete ban on gender reassignment," wrote Aleshina posted on her Telegram channel. Due to the "current political situation in the country," she declined to name them.
