"I didn't consider the deceased my son." Samara residents went to the Supreme Court to divide the compensation for their son who died in Ukraine.

The mother who raised her son and the father who took no part in his life have already twice reachedи to the Supreme Court over 10 million rubles due for the death of a young man in the war in Ukraine.

A Samara resident, according to his ex-wife, kicked her out of the house when she was two months pregnant, did not participate in raising their son, and after his death, wanted to refuse payments, but changed his mind.

"The military commissar of the Industrial District delivered the death notice to the young man's mother; she had no information about the father. After the soldier's death was announced to his father, he stated that he was prepared to forgo the payments due, as he had never considered the deceased his son. However, he changed his mind when he was told the compensation amount.", the case materials say.

The deceased's mother appealed to the Promyshlenniy District Court. The judge ruled that both parents had equal rights to payments, as the father had not been deprived of parental rights and the mother had approached her ex-husband for assistance with raising the child. Upon appeal, the regional court overturned the first-instance decision and ruled that all payments were due only to the mother.

The father's representative appealed to the Supreme Court, but the highest court dismissed the case, upholding the mother's right to payments. The father, not giving up, filed a second appeal to the Supreme Court. It's impossible to predict how this appeal will play out.
