RusNews published a letter from journalist Maria Ponomarenko, in which she wrote that she was being transferred to a pretrial detention center in Barnaul.

"I don't have much time. I have to go to work in five minutes. I'm supposed to be fired today (August 11), and on Monday I'll be transferred to Pretrial Detention Center No. 1 in Krasnoyarsk, from there to Novosibirsk, and from Novosibirsk to Pretrial Detention Center No. 1 in Barnaul. I'll travel through three detention centers to the penal colony, spending 4-8 days in each (I calculated the average, as I'm often transported). By the time I reach my final destination, it will be at least a couple of weeks," the letter reads.

Maria Ponomarenko spent ten months in custody after her arrest in St. Petersburg in April 2022. During this time, she endured a transport in a Stolypin train car, a psychiatric evaluation where she was injected with unknown drugs, and a suicide attempt in a detention center.

In February 2023, Maria was sentenced to six years in prison for allegedly spreading fake news about the army for a Telegram post about the bombing of the Mariupol drama theater.
