Nizhny Novgorod cardiologists compiled a "portrait" of a patient with myocardial infarction.

Scientists from the Institute of Clinical Medicine at UNN conducted a study among 1300 patients at Nizhny Novgorod Hospital No. 5 and shared their findings with NeMoskva.

To create a universal "portrait" of a patient with myocardial infarction, scientists assessed risk factors, clinical presentation, blood parameters, and blood supply characteristics in patients of different ages. 

It turned out that heart attacks most often occur in young men aged 45. In 75% of cases, they experienced severe pain in the chest, abdomen, right upper quadrant, and navel area. Also, 30% of the young heart attack patients examined were obese and smokers, and their ECGs showed signs of necrosis in the blood supply area. 

It is noteworthy that all these signs are much less common in elderly patients with a heart attack.

As a reminder, circulatory diseases remain the leading cause of death in Russia, accounting for approximately 44% of all deaths. According to the Chekhov Vascular Center, one million Russians die from cardiovascular diseases annually. Per 100,000 people, the Russian statistics are grim—twice as high as in European countries and one and a half times higher than the global average.
