Elections pose a threat to the lives and health of citizens. Deputies are discussing the cancellation of elections under martial law.

Today, October 24, Pskov Deputies amended the regional electoral code. According to the chairman of the regional electoral commission Igor Sopov, the governor now has the right to ask Moscow to cancel the elections in the event of martial law being introduced. сообщает Pskovskaya Gubernia newspaper.

The final decision to cancel elections in a region will be made by the Russian Central Election Commission, which the head of the region must submit no later than three months before election day.

Officials emphasize that such changes to local law were made “in connection with federal amendments.”

Meanwhile, the State Duma deputies have already approved the bill, proposed back in March, is in its second reading Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

«If the preparation and conduct of federal elections in a constituent entity may pose a threat to the life and health of citizens, then the relevant elections there, by decision of the Central Election Commission, are not held or are suspended.“,” the document specifies.

The final decision to cancel the elections will have to be made after consultation between the Central Election Commission, the Ministry of Defense, the FSB, and the head of the region.

The State Duma also intends to change the procedures for polling stations on military bases. Deputies believe the election commission could be formed from military personnel and their relatives, and photography and video recording would be permitted only with the approval of the unit commander.
