"Are you in your right minds, people?" A Tver activist suggested residents of the Vesyegonsk District complain to Putin about the "fuel oil lake."

Tver activist Alexander Ivushkin, оdiscovered близ village of Kreshnevo "fuel oil swamp" was outraged inaction of the authorities and the residents themselves Vesyegonsk municipalityHe filed complaints with all the relevant agencies, but no one took any steps to address the emergency on the forest fund lands.

Ivushkin received a tip about the "fuel oil swamps" in August 2022 from a tourist searching for the Mologa River, who took the wrong route and ended up in contaminated areas near the abandoned Vesyegonsk Flax Mill. Ivushkin filmed the spilled fuel oil and recorded that it was thin and fresh.

"It really was a whole lake of fuel oil; probably hundreds, if not thousands, of cubic meters of fresh fuel oil were spilled across the forest, and there were also traces of excavations of huge tanks, and activists also saw equipment: a crane and an excavator,"

— Ivushkin wrote on his VK page.

The Mologa River is 300 meters away, into which this oil product can end up.

The Volga Environmental Prosecutor's Office, the head of the district, Alexander Pashukov, and his deputies failed to respond to the activist's complaints. A year later, the regional Ministry of Natural Resources suddenly responded: the contaminated area was "no man's land," so the district administration would have to clean it up. Again, nothing happened.

"A veritable lake of fuel oil has been spilled for over a year... and no one—not the Vesyegonsk police, not the environmental and regional prosecutor's office, not the officials, not the deputies, not even the terrified residents—cares! Are you out of your minds, people?... At least write to President Putin on the hotline."

— he called on local residents.
