"We said goodbye to everyone today." The court has permanently liquidated the oldest human rights organization, "Man and Law," in Mari El.

This decision was made on December 19 by the Fourth Court of Appeal in Nizhny Novgorod, пишет The Telegram channel "Man and the Law." The organization existed for 24 years.
 

"We worked for the benefit of the residents of our republic and helped thousands of people who turned to us for assistance. This included a pensioner who was brought barefoot to the police station in -30°C weather; a young father who lost his wife due to a medical error; a woman whose child was denied a place in a kindergarten; an Interior Ministry employee whose pension was incorrectly calculated; and a prisoner who was tortured... We helped everyone! Essentially, we were doing the work the state refused to do," the post notes.

 
The organization's director, Irina Protasova, told NeMoskva that the organization no longer has the right to continue its activities:

"The decision has entered into force, and if we continue our activities, we will be subject to criminal liability. We said goodbye today on social media to everyone we worked with. We are suspending our activities on all our networks. They will not be liquidated, and the materials can continue to be used. We will then appeal this decision to the UN. We will not lose our consultative status as a group, but we are taking a break. Each member of the organization will decide for themselves what activities and in what form they will carry out, as an individual activist or as a public figure. I can say that this is very sad, because it's 24 years of life. For me, it's also painful because it's connected to Sergei Poduzov (the human rights activist died in 2022 after a long illness – editor's note), with whom we started all this. The organization was his continuation. The individual is gone, but the organization was alive... Now we've been deprived of that too."

 Liquidate the organization demanded due to a denunciation by a certain Yandulov A.L. Later, the informant admitted that the Ministry of Justice itself asked him to sign the complaint against "Man and the Law."
