Intelligence agencies received information that a suicide bomber had arrived in Moscow several days before the attack. They even knew the target was an airport. However, they were unable to find the perpetrator.

20-year-old Magomed Evloev He came from Ingushetia. He suffered from a nervous disorder following a head injury sustained as a child. In the summer of 2010, he joined the militants. Experts found traces of drugs and psychotropic substances in his blood.

Yevloyev arrived at Domodedovo by taxi and smuggled the bomb past the metal detector; the police officer on duty was simply distracted. For the next 68 minutes, the suicide bomber wandered around the airport, even drinking coffee. The suicide belt, visible under his jacket, didn't alert anyone.

The explosion occurred at 16:32 in the international arrivals hall.

The bomb exploded 5-6 meters to my left. A moment after the blast, I was on the floor. There was a terrible ringing in my ears. Clouds of black smoke, people lying around… The only thing that saved me was the many people standing between me and the suicide bomber. I don't think any of them survived (recollections of a survivor).

Initially, it was claimed the bomb was filled with pipe fragments, bolts, and nuts. Later, experts suggested that the metal fragments found in the bodies of the wounded and dead could have been fragments of shopping carts and suitcases.

Following the terrorist attack, several high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and the FSB were dismissed.

Three of the terrorist's accomplices were sentenced to life imprisonment, and several more were killed during arrest.

The criminal case against the management and owners of Domodedovo Airport for failing to ensure security has been closed: investigators found no criminal offense in their actions.
