Born in 1941 LyublinoHe wanted to become a pilot, but he abandoned his dream due to heart problems. To pursue another dream—to one day play Pechorin, "A Hero of Our Time"—he cured his lisp.
A person needs to live for something. And, apparently, so that something beautiful can be born from you.
I enrolled at Shchepka and recited Nozdryov's monologue from Dead Souls. Despite my non-conformity to the canonical image of a landowner ("tall, skinny"), I was accepted. From my second year onward, I kept a diary where I analyzed lectures and reflected:
I understand, I can't write a play. I'm still too stupid and young.
Success came in 1961. Alexander Zarkhi adapted "Ticket to the Stars" for the screen Vasily Aksenova. The heroes who “want to live – and that’s all,” while remaining free, became Andrey Mironov, Alexander Zbruev и Oleg DalIt was written about the latter that he "brought Aksyonov's boys to the stage and screen."
First of all, through the incompatibility of the natural and the unnatural, a film must give birth to a certain image. A symbol. Then it is art.
The cinematic images of the 60s were born of the atmosphere of the "thaw"—romantics, maximalists, wanting to be themselves. In the "stagnant" 70s, Dahl's heroes convey his inner breakdown—"a foolish buffoon with eyes full of tears." The modern "hero of our time" is a "superfluous man," disillusioned and devastated.
I don't enjoy my work. It's even strange to me that I once considered it everything to me. Or rather, it replaced everything for me.
Dahl was called "the man without skin." He searched and failed to find his theater—he left Sovremennik alone four times. He had no awards or titles. Once, he was called a "people's artist," but he corrected himself: "more like a foreigner."
What do we have next, dear Fate? Say, next week? Huh?
In his final months, he was mentally and physically exhausted. He died of a myocardial infarction while flying to Kyiv for a screen test.
