"A disgrace, a mockery, a slap in the face": A janitor in St. Petersburg was presented with a new uniform for saving people from a burning building.

A fire in a building at 39 Podolskaya Street occurred on Thursday, media reports. A janitor Olimjon Ibragimov climbed onto the ledge via a drainpipe and helped residents descend the fire escape.

The next day, the head of the Admiralty district of St. Petersburg Sergei Overchuk met with Olimzhon and presented the janitor with an award: a painting depicting a St. Petersburg church and a new work uniform. 

"Aren't you ashamed to share such gratitude on social media?", "You'd better leave of your own accord, that kind of thing can't be washed away! A uniform should be issued anyway, and for someone with a small salary, this picture is a slap in the face," "They're real clowns... A disgrace," "The rest get medals and money. And what about such a good person?", "It's a mockery," Social media users reacted unanimously to Overchuk's post. Comments on the post were closed shortly afterward.

A janitor told Fontanka journalists Olimjon Ibragimov said that he was originally from Of UzbekistanHe served in the airborne troops in Fergana for 15 years and is a master of sports in boxing. He currently lives in a communal apartment with his family (Olimzhon's wife and daughter also work as janitors) and earns 45 rubles. However, he says he received no financial reward for rescuing the fire victims.

"It's our duty to help. God watches over everyone. Someone called yesterday, but I didn't pick up. We spent the whole day clearing out trash. We often help people here; over the past seven years, everyone has recognized me. Helping someone move the fridge, throwing out things. My phone number is in the entryway. We all understand." — said Ibragimov.
