Roads are deteriorating: the head of the Russian Ministry of Transport acknowledged the poor condition of federal highways.

Roman Starovoit He promised that repairing federal roads would become a priority for the Ministry of Transport, while building new highways would be relegated to the background.

"Unfortunately, since 2020, we've seen a decline in the federal road network. This has been noted by governors and the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate." — the Minister of Transport explained, noting that some federal highways are only receiving half the funding they need.

Roman Starovoit presented two new national transport projects to the State Duma, scheduled to launch in 2025. The first, "Efficient Transport System," will include, for example, the construction of a high-speed rail line. Moscow - St. Petersburg, development of the Northern Sea Route, border crossing points, etc. 

The second national project, "Infrastructure for Life," will include federal programs for the development of the federal road network, regional and local roads, highway safety, and more.

As part of this national project, the Ministry of Transport plans to increase the share of repaired federal highways to 85% and regional and inter-municipal roads to 60% by 2030.
