David Lynch, Christina McKenna "The Dream Room" Moscow: "Bombora", 2024

The Russian translation of this (auto)biography was published back in 2018 and proved far from the best possible, so much so that the publisher decided to replace existing copies with copies from a different print run. Since then, more genre enthusiasts and admirers of Lynch's work have been delighted with higher-quality editions. "The Dream Room" appeals not only for the scale of its protagonist but also for its three-dimensional perspective on his life and career: one narrator is journalist Christina McKenna, the other is David Lynch himself. McKenna compiled dates, documents, and interviews into a coherent story, while Lynch, firstly, verified the collection and, secondly, gave it the precise perspective that imbues information—for example, about why his father disliked porcupines—with additional meaning, helping us one step closer to understanding the maestro's work.
"I remember mostly summer because winter meant school, and we human beings block out memories of school because they are terrible."
