"They should ban phones already. And mail and telegraph services too": the Ministry of Digital Development and Roskomnadzor may ban calls in messengers.
Both a complete blocking of voice calls in apps and a ban on international calls are being discussed, Kommersant reports, citing its sources among telecom operators and in the telecom market. The reason for this is the increase in fraudulent activity.
"Currently, according to telecom operators, around 40% of calls on messaging apps are made by scammers, with approximately 70% of these coming from abroad," journalists explain the initiative. "Telecom operators say they can't block calls on messaging apps without additional tools, and such restrictions are only possible at the level of Roskomnadzor."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media stated that they are not currently "developing regulations restricting voice traffic in messaging apps." Roskomnadzor, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media, did not respond to journalists.
"If you need to call, submit a request on Gosuslugi. Once Roskomnadzor approves it, you can call," "It's time to bring back the blue doves," "How can I communicate with my relatives while roaming? Should I pay 900 rubles for calls or something?" "They should ban phones already. And mail and telegraph services too.", — social media users comment on the news.
