Echpochmak and souski. A minor scandal over culinary ethics has erupted in Tatarstan.
The clothing brand "Vliyanie," which combines Tatar flair with bold design, has created a T-shirt with echpochmaks (bacons) on the chest. The echpochmaks also feature pierced nipples.
Not everyone liked the idea. Echpochmak (Tatar triangles filled with meat and potatoes) are considered a cultural symbol of Tatarstan, along with chak-chak. UFC fighter Rinat Fakhretdinov called the use of images "overkill." "I think this is a crazy idea. Since we're so committed to Tatar culture, we obviously shouldn't overlook nipples shaped like a national dish," he wrote on the brand's Instagram.
"Influence" responded ironically roller — They found photos of Fakhretdinov half-naked on his page, and asked why, in that case, he's allowed to show his nipples. They also asked the fighter "not to threaten us with personal meetings" anymore: "We're creative. You're fighting. We're on different paths. Please leave us alone."
The audience's opinions were divided. Some supported the fighter: "Don't disgrace our people with such cringe-worthy designs," and "It's unpleasant to see how you sexualize a national dish that's not only food and bread, but also something very familiar, something associated with the warmth and modesty of the Tatar nation."
"It's just some dough with potatoes and meat on a T-shirt😂 What are you guys doing? What culture?" others wrote. "Influence" was also reminded of the story of Ossetian pies. Stand-up comedians had to publicly apologize twice for a joke about them.
