US authorities have decided to stop funding Radio Liberty and Voice of America.

Media holding management received a letter from the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) terminating grants. Voice of America staff members have been placed on mandatory leave. Radio Liberty informed employees that it would appeal the decision.

The Radio Liberty media holding covered events in Russia through several regional editorial offices.

🔸 Sever.Realii focused on news and analysis from the northwestern regions of Russia;

🔸 Siberia.Realities covered events and problems in Siberia;

🔸 Idel.Realii dealt with issues and news of the Middle Volga, including regions with a predominantly Tatar and Bashkir population;

🔸 Kavkaz.Realii talked about the events and problems of the North Caucasus;

🔸 Tatar-Bashkir service broadcast in the Tatar and Bashkir languages, covering the cultural and social aspects of the life of these peoples.

In February 2024, the Ministry of Justice declared Radio Liberty's activities undesirable in Russia, which led to significant difficulties for these regional editorial offices. However, they continued to operate until today. Now, however, they are likely to close in the near future.

The reaction of the journalistic community and experts is in our cards.
