A paralyzed prisoner who hadn't washed for a year and used a bowl to go to the toilet was released from a prison colony in the Yaroslavl region.

Release of the 49-year-old Sergei Savchenko lawyer Irina Biryukova I tried to achieve this for four months.

The man had a quota for a high-tech hip replacement surgery, but his condition worsened in prison, making the surgery impossible.

«[Savchenko] simply would not have survived in such conditions until the end of his sentence <> Now we will think through a strategy for further actions, both regarding his health and the inaction of prison doctors throughout this entire time.», - commented Biryukova after the end of the trial.

Following her client's complaint, lawyer Irina Biryukova appealed to the Kirovsky District Court Yaroslavl with a lawsuit against the prison's medical unit. She was only able to secure her release on March 13th with the support of the Public Verdict movement. The paralyzed man left the courthouse and went home.
