The Prosecutor General's Office has asked the Supreme Court to allow the Taliban movement to operate in Russia.

How to сообщает Interfax reports that the lawsuit, signed by the Prosecutor General, has already been submitted to the Supreme Court and accepted for proceedings. A hearing is scheduled for April 17.

The watchdog agency is requesting a suspension of the ban on the Taliban movement, which has been on the list of terrorist organizations for more than 20 years.

The court has already clarified that the hearing will be held behind closed doors. This means journalists will likely not hear the reasons why the Prosecutor General's Office considers the Taliban its friends.

Despite their banned status, Taliban representatives have been attending official events in Russia for several years now: they took participation in international forums in St. Petersburg and Kazan, where they discussed the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, and spoke about education issues. Last year, Putin call their "allies".

In December, the State Duma took a law allowing organizations to be removed from the terrorist list. This idea was previously supported the in the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As a reminder, the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in 2021. They ban women from attending even primary school, from going outside without a chador, from going to gyms, and from walking in parks with men. The movement's representatives have repeatedly stated their intention to stone women to death for adultery and to publicly flog them.
