Tomsk scientists have developed a way to deliver medication to brain tumors through the sense of smell. 

Patients will be able to simply inhale the medicine with the sweet scent of bird cherry, and the body will “deliver” the nanoparticles from the nose directly to the brain.

Experiments with animals by TPU scientists have shown that nanoparticles can complete this process in 12-96 hours, bypassing the brain's defenses (the blood-brain barrier) and delivering a dose precisely to the tumor. This reduces the drug dosage required, and the risk of side effects is reduced.

“This opens up new opportunities for the development of pharmacology,” says a senior researcher at the Moscow Scientific Research Center for Pharmaceuticals, Microbiology and Microbiology.
