"The toilet is outside. Young children go to the toilet in a bucket." This is what a Yakut boarding school for children with disabilities looks like.

The correctional boarding school is located in the village Elechey, 150 km from YakutskCurrently, 35 children with mental disabilities are being raised here.

A local activist and lawyer drew attention to the conditions in which they live. Lyubomir Mikhailov.

“The rooms barely fit beds, there is no amenities, no toilet or shower, I told he told journalists from the SakhaDay publication three months ago. They live very close together at the boarding school. They eat and read in the same room."

According to the director of the boarding school Irina MatchitovaThe modern building, built in 2012, proved unsafe—its walls were cracked. As a result, the children had to be returned to wooden houses built in 1969.

In May, a prosecutor's inspection was carried out at the boarding school, the results of which identified "numerous violations of sanitary and epidemiological legislation".

According to the inspection report, the boarding school lacks hot and cold water, showers, toilets, rest rooms, or even medical facilities.

A prosecutor's notice has been filed with the school principal. A lawsuit has also been filed against the local administration demanding that the violated rights of disabled children be restored.
