Preserving roads and saving time: Tomsk scientists have learned to weigh cars at speeds up to 70 km/h.

A team from Tomsk Polytechnic University suggested use seismic sensors for this purpose.

These sensors detect ground vibrations when vehicles pass along the road. A special program helps filter out the noise of other cars and road equipment from the signals of the target vehicle, and the system itself is unaffected by rain, fog, and darkness.

In the experiment, scientists embedded sensors in artificial lanes placed on one of the highway's lanes. The system measured signals from seven real trucks and determined their speed, weight, and number of wheels.

Scientists claim their development will help identify overloaded trucks early, keep roads in good condition, and make travel safer.
