Thickness is a five out of five

A mother bear and her cub were met by specialists from the Bear Islands Nature Reserve on Chetyrekhstolbovoy Island in the East Siberian Sea. They were delighted to see them. While humans are often criticized for their weight, it's the opposite with bears. The staff marveled at the family's plumpness.

“The bears look great, a 5 out of 5, as they say, very well-fed, and don’t show any aggression,” рассказал Arkady Semenov, Director of the Lena Pillars National Park. For polar bears, fat is the key to health and a successful winter.

There's still a lot of ice in the reserve's waters, so bears, especially males, are confined to the area and rarely seen on land. The mass migration of these endangered animals to the island shores and the mainland of the reserve will begin in mid-August, when large sheets of ice retreat far from the shore.
