A search is underway in St. Petersburg at the home of Elena Popova, co-founder of the Movement of Conscientious Objectors.

"They're chopping down my door with an axe. They've jammed it so tightly that I can't open it with a key. I'm scared. They said it was the FSB," Popova said in a "circle" on her Telegram channel.

The reason for the security forces' visit is unknown. 

Elena Popova has been promoting individual conscientious objection to military service for over 15 years. In early July, she announced she would be leaving the Movement of Conscientious Objectors due to moral exhaustion.

"I used to set goals like, 'When we crush the call to hell, I'll leave,' but then it became clear we wouldn't, not in this life... Then I thought, 'When the war ends, I'll leave.' But suddenly I felt it would never end, that new evils were constantly being created. And the only life that could end exactly the opposite was my life, my parents' lives... And somehow I decided it was time to leave," Popova wrote then.

There is currently no contact with the human rights activist.
