"Purity of Thoughts", "Peaceful Sky" and "Blood": Today is the Day of the State Flag of Russia

Regional leaders are already in full swing congratulating residents on the holiday. They're writing at length and pompously about the flag as a symbol of a great country, unity, and the path to victory, calling for Russia's defense, and publishing various videos about the flag.

At the same time, 20% of Russians found it difficult to name the meaning behind the colors of the national flag, has shown sociological research. However, there is no official interpretation of the colors.

Of those who have identified the meaning, the majority believe that white symbolizes “purity of thoughts,” blue – a peaceful sky, and red – “blood shed for the Fatherland.” 

A similar survey was conducted by VTsIOM in 2020. Back then, 69% of Russians found it difficult to determine the meaning of each color.

Concerts, flash mobs, flag-raising ceremonies, flag distributions, and other events, mostly initiated by government officials, are taking place across Russia today.
