The Vladimir Regional Legislative Assembly refused to discuss the closure of the maternity hospital in Gus-Khrustalny.

In early September, the only maternity ward in Gus-Khrustalny was closed. Residents rallied against the government's decision. more than 2,000 signatures, but at the meeting of the Legislative Assembly, the deputies refused to consider the issue. 

Deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Anton Sidorko suggested discussing this issue and wanted to voice the residents' appeal in defense of the maternity hospital.

"This is very important because there are a number of technical issues today. We know that President Putin supports the issue of demographics and everything related to it. It would be right to raise this issue, raised by citizens, today."- addressed he is going to the deputies. 

Only 4 deputies voted in favor of discussing the fate of the maternity ward, another 8 abstained, and the rest did not even vote.

In recent years, legislators at all levels have become adept at passing prohibitive laws—for example, bans on abortions to increase the birth rate. However, they have failed to come up with effective measures that would encourage women to have children. 

Pregnant women will now have to travel 150 km from home to Vladimir. Fifty maternity ward staff members have been left without jobs.
