Until recently, children in the village Ilyichevo, which is located 50 km from Kaliningrad, there was only one entertainment - catching free Wi-Fi near the food stall.
I noticed this Yulia Izmailova, who grew up in this village and then taught drawing for many years in one of the Kaliningrad schools.
Now she's decided to return to Ilyichevo, home to no more than 300 people. She's trying to transform the vacant lot where the abandoned building was demolished into a creative space for children. She knows from experience how few opportunities rural children have.
Last weekend, the village held its first open-air workshop, attended by about 30 young artists (even the rain didn't disperse them). The outdoor workshop was followed by tea and a small concert.
According to Izmailova, many teenagers have already agreed to become volunteers and come running at the first call to clear out old junk from the vacant lot.
"Do you understand how much they crave some kind of movement? Some kind of breath of fresh air?" said Olga, teacher to journalists from the local publication "Klops".
Together with her husband, she has already prepared a design for the future school and is now writing an application for a grant.
