From the frame to the smallest household items: an ancient yurt was digitized in Ufa.

This is the first museum exhibit in the region to be completely transferred to virtual space. 

The yurt from the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and the artifacts that make up its interior were digitized both manually and using terrestrial laser scanning. Every detail required a customized approach. 

"The Bashkir yurt is a symbol of the people's cultural identity, a unique combination of engineering, aesthetics, and practicality. However, traditional yurts have been lost as a part of everyday life, and museums don't allow one to fully immerse themselves in their atmosphere," said Bulat Shaibakov, head of the laboratory. "We want technology to help preserve history."

The project was carried out by a team from the Ufa State Petroleum Technological University in collaboration with the Eurasian Museum of Nomadic Civilizations. 

The virtual exhibit will be presented at the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography. The development can also be used at exhibitions and forums, as well as for educational purposes at universities, schools, and cultural centers.
