Putin expelled the former director of the Gulag History Museum from the Human Rights Council.
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin signed a decree changing the composition of the Human Rights Council. Five people were excluded, including the director of the Gulag History Museum. Romana Romanova.
The Gulag History Museum in Moscow closed A year ago, in November 2024, for a formal reason—allegedly a "fire safety violation." The fire safety inspection was initiated after an anonymous complaint.
Until then, the museum operated, hosting memorial events for victims of political repression. Roman Romanov served as the museum's director until January 2025.
The head of the Human Rights Council under the President is Valery Fadeyev, which last week saidthat singer Naoko, who was persecuted for performing songs, should thank the authorities for teaching her a lesson.
By the same decree, Putin included four new members in the HRC:
🔸Maria Bolshakov — Chairman of the Council of the Union of Families of Military Personnel of Russia;
🔸Natalia Kravchenko — Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the “Fund for the Development of the Center for the Development and Commercialization of New Technologies”;
🔸Alexey Lubkova — Rector of Moscow State Pedagogical University, known that, together with Metropolitan Tikhon Shevkunov, he developed a textbook on the subject “Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia,” which will become mandatory for schoolchildren from 2026;
🔸Arthur Shlykova — the chairman of the Civil Committee of Russia movement, who complained to Alexander Bastrykin about the song by comedian Alexander Gudkov “I’m Narrow” and speaker for blocking VPN services.
