Far Eastern "crab king" Oleg Kan was sentenced in absentia to 24 years in a maximum-security prison. 

He was tried for crab smuggling. 2,6 billion rubles, "creation of a criminal organization for the purpose of committing particularly serious crimes," and "evasion of customs duties and taxes," the Prosecutor General's Office reported. 

The prosecution had requested a similar sentence for Kan. The "crab king" was also fined 5 млн rubles and confiscated them from him 4,2 billion rubles, which the prosecution considers to be the value of the contraband goods.

According to investigators, Kan and his accomplices smuggled over three thousand tons of crab abroad between 2014 and 2019. When exported, the crab was declared at one price, but in reality, it was shipped at a significantly higher price.

Oleg Kan He left Russia in 2018. In 2020, criminal cases were opened against him, including for organizing a contract killing. In April 2024, the businessman was sentenced in absentia to 17 years in prison. During his trial, Kan's defense announced that he died in the UK in February 2023. However, representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office cast doubt on Kan's death, calling it staged.

In 2024, the property of the three “crab kings” was transferred to state ownership. 21,8 billion rubles.
