A pensioner in Karelia was fined for failing to stand during the national anthem.
A protocol for a 64-year-old resident Medvezhyegorsk Galina Ispodina compiled after a denunciation published by the publication "Karelia.news": it was they who posted a photo from a local council meeting at which deputies were electing the district head.
“She refused to stand up during the performance of the Russian and Karelian anthems,” emphasized the authors of the note. — She continued to sit, staring at her phone."
The informers paid no attention to the fact that one of the walls of the municipal institution was painted in the “forbidden” colors of the rainbow.
In Medvezhyegorsk, Ispodina is known as someone who isn't afraid to criticize the government. She has also been fined twice for anti-war comments on social media.
This time, Karelia.news demanded that the pensioner be punished for "disrespecting the anthem."
Ispodina herself explained to the police that she was unable to stand up during the performance of the anthem due to her “poor physical condition,” as she had recently undergone leg surgery.
She also noted that performing the Russian anthem at a municipal council session is not official. Furthermore, the law does not specify what exactly the audience should do during such a performance.
However, the court recognized found her guilty and fined her two thousand rubles. How notes Novaya Gazeta reports that many city residents have already expressed their willingness to help Ispodina with the payment.
