A Khabarovsk resident convicted of drug smuggling will be released: the sentence was overturned on appeal.

In the Khabarovsk Regional Court canceled sentence of 5 years in a maximum security penal colony for student Andrey Moroztsev. He was convicted of smuggling potent drugs for purchasing medication from India by mail, which turned out to contain a substance banned in Russia. There is no medication for hypersomnia, which Andrey suffers from, available in Russia. 

A new sentence was handed down today: 4,5 years of probation. Now, a support group with Andrei's mother is waiting for him to be released from pretrial detention—he participated in the appeal via videoconference. 

Moroztsev's support group thanked everyone who participated in the campaign for his release, wrote appeals to higher authorities, and donated to his mother and defense. 

"You've proven that when people unite, they can do anything. The system can listen. Our collective voice has been heard. The fight is worth fighting. We must never give up. We saved a man. Today, Andrey. Tomorrow, we can save others," the support group wrote.
