Vladimir Penal Colony No. 2 has closed. Its most famous prisoner was Alexei Navalny.

"Convicts serving sentences at the said facility have been transferred to other correctional colonies to continue serving their sentences, in accordance with the requirements of criminal-executive legislation. A decision on the use of the building complex of FKU IK-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Vladimir Region has not yet been made," сообщили to the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Vladimir Region.
Prisoners began being sent to IK-2 in 1996. The colony could accommodate up to a thousand people.
The most famous prisoners of IK-2 were the politician Alexey Navalny, nationalist Dmitry Demushkin, activist Konstantin Kotov. Local prominent figures serving sentences there include politician and businessman Alexander Filippov and former Legislative Assembly deputy Sergei Kuryshev.
Navalny on the penal colony писал as follows: "I couldn't imagine that it would be possible to set up a real concentration camp 100 km from Moscow."However, he was treated there "politely and exclusively on video." Navalny served time in this prison colony from February 2021 to June 2022.
Lawyer Maria Eismont called the zone "reddening": the prisoners there were completely dependent on the administration, controlled by "activists" collaborating with the authorities.
In an interview with Mediazona, Demushkin called the Pokrov penal colony the harshest in Russia "in terms of how it breaks people." Konstantin Kotov, however, insists that although it's technically a general-security penal colony, the regime there is actually strict.
Demushkin called the colony is "strictly exemplary": "It has a reputation for being a breaking point. When I arrived, the Pokrov prison was considered the toughest in Russia. Tough in terms of breaking people."
