"My dog lies here." A pet cemetery in the Nizhny Novgorod region was demolished.

Burial sites of domestic cats and dogs, dating back decades, were demolished without warning. in the Sormovsky district.
The cemetery was illegal, but the owners of the deceased animals believe that the burials were handled in an inhumane manner.
"My dog lies here; I buried him two years ago. There was a cross here, and a stone monument to him. Such vandalism, people just come here to see the ashes."- said Olga, journalists Irina Beshenova.
The former owners complained to the mayor's office, but they denied any involvement in the cemetery's destruction. A car wash and tire shop are located nearby, leading to speculation that some of the businesses had decided to expand their property. However, the owners of these services also denied any involvement in the demolition. The police refused to investigate the gravesite destruction, claiming the cemetery was illegal, meaning there were no injuries.

Legal pet cemeteries only exist in Moscow, Petersburg, Yekaterinburg (it was slated for demolition due to the construction of a skytrain) and several other large cities. Cremation with subsequent placement of ashes in an urn is not affordable for everyone, so pet cemeteries are springing up spontaneously in the regions.
Over the past couple of years, pet cemeteries have been destroyed without warning. в Volgograd, в Blagoveshchensk, в Nadym and other cities. Demolitions will continue and further - most likely due to the demand for land and its high cost.
