"I thought they were thrown out and wouldn't survive": In Stavropol, a Magnit store manager was accused of killing kittens.
A scandal erupted in Svetlograd, Stavropol, over the death of kittens near a Magnit store. According to animal rights activists, the store manager killed the animals before volunteers could retrieve them.
What happened
Unknown people abandoned kittens near a Magnit store in Svetlograd. Volunteers learned about the animals and planned to provide them with shelter until they found homes. However, when they arrived at the store two hours later, the kittens were already dead—their heads had been severed.
Stavropol animal rights activist Andrey Suvorov wrote about the incident on his Instagram account. He said the store manager herself admitted to the kittens' deaths.
"I thought they were thrown out and wouldn't survive."
In her defense, the woman claimed she didn't know "that's not allowed." According to Suvorov, there was no response from Magnit: angry comments under the posts are being deleted, and the manager continues to work.
"The most surprising thing is that Magnit hasn't responded yet. Everyone is doing just fine: there are no kittens, the manager is working, and no one has been punished," the activist wrote.
In another video, two volunteers emotionally berate the manager and promise to get her fired. "People like that shouldn't be living with us," one of them adds.
What are the risks for the manager?
Animal rights activists are demanding a public response from Magnit and an investigation into the manager's actions under the law on animal cruelty. Those found guilty of this offense face up to five years in prison.
