A resident of the Lipetsk region received a 20-year prison sentence for the murder of a military police officer who came to detain his son.

In March of this year, a military police squad arrived at the home of a 63-year-old Alexey Zaitsev and tried to detain his son, who had escaped from the military unit.

Zaitsev himself claimed that his son “honestly served A year and a half under contract and returned home, but he was persecuted and strongly recommended to return to service."

Seeing the military police officers, Zaitsev began threatening them with a hunting rifle. When they began to retreat toward the car, he shot one of them in the back. The officer died instantly.

How to сообщает Mediazona reports that the court found the man guilty of illegal possession of explosives and ammunition, threatening violence against a government official, and attempting to kill a security officer. Zaitsev must serve the first three years of his sentence in prison, and the remainder in a maximum-security penal colony.

Zaitsev was also fined 40 rubles and ordered to pay two million rubles to the deceased's minor son.

Neighbors noteZaitsev became "unsociable" after his wife's death. He has an only son; in June, he was sentenced to eight years in a maximum-security penal colony for "resisting a superior during mobilization and desertion."
