Burning warehouses near St. Petersburg, a new sanctions package, and an esophagus grown from an arm: NeMoskva news overnight
New drone attacks have occurred in Russian regions, causing major fires at logistics facilities near St. Petersburg. Additionally, a fatal accident occurred in Tatarstan, protests against deforestation are underway in Siberia, and surgeons from the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug have made a breakthrough in global medicine.
Drone attacks on warehouses near St. Petersburg and a fatal accident in Tatarstan
In the Leningrad Region, a Wildberries warehouse in the Utkina Zavod industrial zone is on fire following a drone attack, according to reports from residents of nearby areas. The facility is located just a few kilometers from St. Petersburg. A warehouse in Shushary is also burning simultaneously. Both major facilities have been completely shut down, but employees confirmed that everyone was evacuated promptly, and there are no reports of injuries yet.
Consequently, equally tragic events are unfolding in other regions. Six people died in a horrific accident in Zelenodolsk, Tatarstan. The accident, involving a Chevrolet Lanos, occurred on Volzhskaya Street at night. The car crashed into a tree at high speed and instantly burst into flames. The driver and five passengers died instantly, and only one person survived, whose life is currently being saved.
Environmental protest in Novosibirsk and a unique operation in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug
Meanwhile, Novosibirsk residents are outraged by the massive tree clearing on Dinamovtsev and Barernaya Streets. City Council Deputy Anton Burmistrov noted that the trees being cleared are completely healthy, while the truly hazardous structures have been ignored by local authorities for years. Meanwhile, the clearing has also affected the city center: 15 larch trees have already been destroyed on Kamenskaya Street, and poplars have been removed near the Globus Theater and the refinery on Kirov Street.
However, there is also some positive news from the healthcare sector. Surgeons at the Khanty-Mansiysk District Clinical Hospital have performed the first esophagus transplant in Russia, grown entirely from tissue from a patient's own arm. To restore the damaged organ, doctors created a graft from a fragment of the woman's forearm, transferred it to her chest, and sutured the tiny blood vessels. Ultimately, this complex operation, the second such procedure in the world, was a success, and the patient is being prepared for discharge.
The European Union has approved the 21st package of sanctions against Russia.
Furthermore, foreign policy pressure continues. The European Union officially approved the 21st round of sanctions against Russia, which includes 48 individuals and over 160 organizations. We place this fact in the context of the overall deteriorating economic situation.
The new restrictions, among others, affect presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, former head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov, as well as the Moscow Exchange, banks Dom.RF, Uralsib, MTS Bank, digital marketplace banks, and gold mining companies Seligdar and Yuzhuralzoloto.
