A bust of Stalin was unveiled in Oryol: Gennady Zyuganov presented the monument.

Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Central Committee Gennady Zyuganov ceremoniously unveiled a bust of Stalin in Oryol's Victory Park. This is the first such memorial to the leader of the people in Oryol in the post-Soviet period. On the eve of the State Duma elections, the communist leader paid a working visit to the Oryol region.

Zyuganov's visit to the region and the decade-long struggle for a monument

In addition to the bust, Zyuganov opened a classroom named after himself at Oryol State University. The politician is also expected to visit his home village of Mymrino.

Local communists had been pushing for the installation of a bust of Stalin for ten years. Initially, they insisted on placing the sculpture in the very center of the city. However, they eventually reached a compromise with city authorities.

As a result, the bust was installed on the themed Alley of Victors in Victory Park. Monuments to other Soviet military leaders are also located there: Georgy Zhukov, Alexander Vasilevsky, Konstantin Rokossovsky, Vasily Sokolovsky, and Markian Popov.

Statistics on the installation of Stalin monuments in Russia

According to the "We Can Explain" project, as of May of last year, there were 120 monuments to Stalin in Russia and the occupied territories of Ukraine. Consequently, 105 of them were erected during Vladimir Putin's presidency.

As a result, in 2025 alone, 17 new memorial sites dedicated to the Soviet leader were opened in various Russian regions.
