Wildberries warehouse fire, natural disasters, and groups at a crèche until 8 p.m.: the night's highlights
A large Wildberries warehouse in the Moscow region caught fire as a result of a drone attack, while regional authorities in the Far East have declared a state of emergency due to widespread flooding. We've compiled a summary of the main events and incidents that emerged overnight.
Drone attacks and fires in the Moscow region
In Podolsk, Moscow Region, a major Wildberries warehouse complex caught fire after being struck by a drone. The resulting fire and infrastructure damage also resulted in power outages in several communities in the Podolsk district. Additionally, a massive fire broke out at a pharmaceutical warehouse in Domodedovo, resulting in the collapse of a 56-square-meter structure.
However, the consequences of the overnight incidents were not limited to infrastructure destruction. Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov announced that an 83-year-old man died in the Ramenskoye District, and six more residents in various districts of the Moscow Region were injured. According to authorities, air defense systems shot down 822 drones over Russian regions and occupied Crimea, 187 of which were over the Moscow Region.
However, other areas were also subject to air strikes. In the Rostov region, three people were killed and another local resident was wounded as a result of strikes. Simultaneously, Russian troops attacked Kryvyi Rih, Kremenchuk, and Kyiv. In Kryvyi Rih, one person was killed and 13 residents were wounded, while three civilians were injured in the Ukrainian capital.
Floods and emergency situation in the Far East
In the Far East, the situation is worsening due to flooding and heavy rains. In particular, in the Amur Region, authorities have been forced to declare a state of emergency. Washed-out roads have cut off transport links to the villages of Ekimchan and Tokur, as well as the villages of Ivanovskoye, Zlatoustovsk, and Olginsk. Access to these settlements is currently completely blocked.
Consequently, a similar critical situation has developed in the neighboring Khabarovsk Krai, where the Amur River's water level has exceeded five meters. Due to the river's overflow, Khabarovsk's main embankment has been completely flooded, despite the city having been under a state of emergency since last week. Furthermore, rising river levels have also been recorded in Transbaikal, where heavy rains have flooded several residential buildings, and forecasters predict further deterioration of the hydrological situation.
Social initiatives and air travel
In the social sphere, new proposals have been made to change the operation of preschools. Specifically, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation Vladislav Grib proposed introducing extended-day evening groups in crèches. He believes children should be left under the supervision of educators until 19:00 PM or 20:00 PM. Currently, groups with extended hours until 21:00 PM operate in only 46 Russian regions. Against the backdrop of the government's focus on increasing the birth rate, such demographic proposals are becoming increasingly common.
Furthermore, changes have occurred in international travel. The first passenger flight in a long time departed from Moscow to Damascus. Direct air service to the Syrian capital has officially been restored after a hiatus of eighteen months.
