Attack on Samara Oblast, approval of Euro-2 fuel, and expansion of FSO staff: NeMoskva news overnight

In the Samara region, air defense forces repelled a massive drone attack, causing damage to ground targets. Meanwhile, the government authorized the sale of Euro-2 fuel, and Vladimir Putin again increased the number of his security chiefs.

Drone attack on Samara region

A drone attack is being repelled in the Samara Region, causing damage to civilian properties, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev officially announced. Specifically, residents of Samara were awakened overnight by sounds resembling explosions.

Additionally, Telegram monitoring channels report a strike on a residential building in Novokuibyshevsk and a fire near Tolyatti. However, there is currently no official confirmation of this information from the authorities.

Denunciation of Yabloko's campaigning in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, Andrei Kazanin, a veteran of the war with Ukraine, filed a complaint with the territorial election commission against Dmitry Khorzov, a Yabloko candidate for the State Duma. Specifically, he was disturbed by his campaign slogan, "I am the only candidate for peace."

Kazanin stated that this phrase not only "discredits the army" and "calls for the violation of the country's territorial integrity," but also openly insults the other candidates. However, Yabloko categorically disagrees with this interpretation of Khorzov's campaigning.

The disappearance of Politkovskaya's sign and Euro-2 gasoline

In Moscow, a memorial plaque erected by activists the day before to commemorate the 68th anniversary of journalist Anna Politkovskaya's birth has disappeared from the building where she was murdered in 2006. Since the beginning of 2026, this plaque has disappeared more than 30 times.

Consequently, the changes have also affected gas stations across the country. The government has officially authorized the retail sale of low-emission gasoline and diesel fuel—Euro 2, Euro 3, Euro 4, and Euro 5—at gas stations until June 30, 2027.

The Ministry of Energy explained this decision as a temporary measure to maintain stability and prevent the risk of shortages in the fuel market. This change is intended to align retail sales with previously issued permits for the production and import of fuel with lower standards.

Another expansion of the FSO staff

Vladimir Putin has increased the number of his security chiefs for the fourth time since the start of the war, from 785 to 812 people.

According to the decree he signed, the maximum number of employees in the central office of the Federal Protective Service is increased by 27. It's worth noting that, prior to the start of the "SVO," the number of security personnel remained unchanged for 12 years.
