How May 9 is celebrated in Siberia and the Far East

Victory Day was first celebrated in eastern Russia. In the Primorsky Krai, a military parade took place in Vladivostok.

Residents of Novosibirsk witnessed a display of military equipment, a military parade, and the march of the Siberian Cadet Corps drummers this morning. The traditional march and the Immortal Regiment march were cancelled here, as in most other cities.

In Krasnoyarsk, two cadets fainted during a parade, NGS24 reported. Temperatures in the city today are 30 degrees Celsius. The cadets were carried out of formation and given water. The remaining cadets were given wet wipes and water to protect them from sunstroke.

A "Young Patriots" march was held in Buryatia, and firecrackers were launched in Selengisk to celebrate the holiday, striking people. Eyewitnesses reported two injuries. There is no official comment yet.

A rally and parade are taking place in downtown Tomsk. Governor Vladimir Mazur declared: "Once again, the collective West has unleashed its full might on us: military, economic, and informational, desiring only one thing: Russia's defeat. And once again, thousands of our compatriots are on the front lines, defending the future of our country." Officials now invariably interpret Russia's invasion of Ukraine as a continuation of the war that ended in 1945, and Nazi Germany, which they fought in alliance with the US and Great Britain, is being replaced by the concept of the "collective West."

May 9 celebrations in Tyumen proceeded without public festivities or a parade. At 10 a.m. on Memory Square, a concert by military academy cadets was held, fireworks were launched, and flowers were laid at the memorial. Military vehicles drove through the city, and residents were treated to soldiers' porridge.

Yekaterinburg hosted the largest parade to date. Two thousand participants marched through the city center, including a drum company, military personnel, and cadets. Historical and military vehicles also passed by. There were many spectators.
