The unique live puppet theater "2+KU" in Tomsk is at risk of collapse.
The theater's foundation, perched on a cliff, is being eroded from within by groundwater. This winter, the 2+KU team discovered cracks appearing due to the expansion of frozen streams. Work to drain the water and completely reconstruct the foundation is urgently needed.
But "2+KU" exists solely on charitable contributions from viewers. The preliminary cost of the work is approximately 3,5 million rubles. Currently, 500 rubles are needed for the first stage of reinforcement work to ensure the foundation lasts at least another year.
For almost six months, 2+KU has been running a charity fundraiser. Help the theater now. can on the crowdfunding platform Planeta.ru.
"We only receive donations when people write about our fundraisers and remind us. That's why the money is collected very slowly," the theater administrator explains in a conversation with NeMoskva Arina Mikhailova. - In a month, we raised only 30% of the required amount on Planeta."
The live puppet theatre "2+KU" was founded Vladimir Zakharov in 1991. The performances feature unique "living" wrist puppets of a special design, developed by the Master himself. Vladimir He died on February 1, 2019, in a fire in a workshop next to the theater. But "2+KU" was preserved by his students and followers. Today, plays are still performed there with a wrist puppet, and students come on tour. Zakharova and spectators from different cities of Russia and abroad.
"Our theater is unique; it's—without modesty—the only one of its kind in the world. Distinctive, cozy, natural—our theater-home, where we perform, seat people, offer tea, and wash the floors. On the weekends, you're an artist, during the week, a plumber. It doesn't work any other way—heart-to-heart conversation is impossible when there's formality. We work a miracle—we bring to life not only the puppets, but each other as well. Our goal is to remove the crust, to awaken the true humanity in people," the technical director of the 2+KU theater said Alexander Garganeev.
