"Righten the Injustice." Activists Launch Petition Demanding the Protection of Farm Animals from Cruelty

Petition, опубликованная The public organization "Voices for Animals" collected 27 thousand signatures in three weeks.
"Horses, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats, and sheep are highly evolved creatures, capable of experiencing pain and fear just like cats and dogs. But the suffering of farmed animals is hidden behind high fences. It's unspoken, and there are no laws protecting them from cruelty or taking their natural needs into account," the petition states.
According to the authors' calculations, annually in the agricultural sector of Russia Around 3 billion animals, not counting fish, are subject to violence.
The petition's authors emphasize that factory farm animals experience physical and psychological suffering throughout their lives. They are not covered by the federal law "On Responsible Treatment of Animals," allowing owners to use the most painful methods of handling and slaughter with impunity—condemning their charges to death, depriving them of food, water, and medical care. For example, castration, beak trimming, dehorning, and fang trimming are often performed without anesthesia—it's cheaper.
"Most of these animals will never see the sky, the sun, or grass. Their world is cramped pens and cages where it's impossible to move normally, spread their wings, or sometimes even turn around in place."
The petition's authors call on the government to follow global trends and ensure animal welfare in agriculture. While some producers in Russia are already following this path, changing current practices nationwide will only be possible with changes to the regulatory framework.
In this regard, the public organization proposes amendments to the law “On Responsible Treatment of Animals.”
On amendments to the same law asked and governors of some regions, but with a different goal - to allow euthanasia of homeless animals.
