Viktor Tsoi, the iconic rock musician and frontman of the band Kino, was born in Leningrad.
Red, red blood -
An hour later, just the earth,
Two flowers on it and grass
After three she is alive again
And warmed by the rays of the Star
By the name of the Sun...
My family was mixed, Russian and Korean. I attended art school. I was expelled from art school for poor grades. I went to vocational school to study wood carving. I became an excellent netsuke carver.
I sit and look at someone else's sky from someone else's window
And I don’t see a single familiar star.
I walked on all the roads, both here and there,
I turned around and couldn’t see the tracks.
But if you have a pack of cigarettes in your pocket,
So things aren't that bad today...
As a teenager, he played in the band "Ward No. 6." One day, his parents left for a month, leaving him with 90 rubles. He immediately bought a 12-string guitar. After that, he wrote his first lyrics. In the early 1980s, the band "Garin and the Hyperboloids" formed—BG suggested the name. The band became a member of the Leningrad Rock Club and changed its name to "Kino." "I Declare My Home a Nuclear-Free Zone" was named the best anti-war song of the 1984 rock festival.
And we could fight a war
Against those who are against us
Since those who are against those who are against us,
Can't cope with them without us
Kino's popularity grew. Tsoi starred in films. The song "We Are Waiting for Change" from Solovyov's film "Assa" became a manifesto of perestroika.
Cigarettes in hand, tea on the table
Thus the circle closes
And suddenly it makes us scared to change something
Change! Our hearts demand it.
Change! - our eyes demand
In 1988, Nugmanov's film "The Needle," starring Tsoi, was released, along with Kino's album "Blood Type." The phenomenon of "cinema mania" began to be discussed in the USSR.
I dreamed that love rules the world.
I dreamed that the world was ruled by dreams.
And above this a star burns beautifully
I woke up and realized there was trouble.
The rock star worked as a fireman at the Kamchatka boiler house. In 1989, the album "Star Named Sun" was released. Tsoi's popularity reached its peak. In 1990, he died in a car accident.
I would like to stay with you,
Just stay with you,
But a star high in the sky calls me on my way
