The cleanup of the landfill near Vladikavkaz is delayed. In many other Russian regions, landfills are also lagging behind.

As part of the federal project Clean Country By the end of 2024, 191 unauthorized landfills and 88 of the most dangerous sites of accumulated environmental damage in Russian cities must be eliminated. However, progress on the project is slow.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has instructed the Prosecutor General's Office to submit a request for inspections in a number of regions. The supervisory agency will investigate the reasons for the late closure of the landfill in North Ossetia, as well as changes in the volume of landfill area and an increase in the volume of waste in Astrakhan, Tomsk and Taganrog.

In addition, according to the official, North Ossetia was among the regions where they may not have time to eliminate unauthorized landfills.  

«In 2023, the liquidation of 53 unauthorized landfills in cities and three sites of accumulated environmental damage is planned, with nine sites at risk of being disrupted this year. These include four landfills in Dagestan, four in North Ossetia, and one site in Mordovia.», - said Abramchenko. 

In early June, the Vladikavkaz landfill burned for several days in a row, and on July 4, the authorities of North Ossetia reported on The landfill's reclamation was completed and the area was deemed environmentally safe. 1,2 oak saplings and approximately 800 Syrian roses were planted there. The funding amounted to over 2 billion rubles.
