On Ryazan Liberty Square — a large excavation site, "with human bones and fragments of ancient tombstones strewn everywhere." Until the middle of the last century, the Church of the Resurrection of the Sgonny, built in the 17th century, stood on this site. The "scale of vandalism" noticed ethnographer Alexander Dudarev and a tour guide Ksenia Panacheva.
"Rebar has been driven deep into the cultural layer. There are no information boards on site, no archaeological supervision has been conducted, the cultural layer has been disturbed, and the remains of a structure are visible. The workers are shrugging their shoulders, as they know nothing. Who authorized the work and what they plan to build there is unknown. In recent years, there has been a flowerbed in the middle of the square, and work is currently underway in this area.
