21 1896 October, the

Evgeny Schwartz was born in Kazan. He was a novelist, screenwriter, and playwright. He is the author of the plays "An Ordinary Miracle," "The Dragon," "The Naked King," and "The Tale of Lost Time."

- Mom, who is the dragon running away from across the sky?
- Shh! He's not running away, boy, he's maneuvering.
- Why did he tuck his tail between his legs?
- Shh! Tail between your legs, boy, premeditated.

He was baptized according to the Orthodox rite. He ignored anti-Semitic remarks as a child: "I'm Orthodox, therefore I'm Russian." At age eight, he decided he would become a writer. But he enrolled in law school anyway. In 1916, he was drafted into the war. In 1918, he joined the Volunteer Army. After a concussion, he suffered a lifelong hand tremor.

Cut a body in half, and the man will die. But rip a soul apart, and he'll become more docile, that's all. No, no, you won't find such souls anywhere. Only in my city. Armless souls, legless souls, deaf-mute souls, chained souls, cop souls, damned souls. Do you know why the burgomaster pretends to be insane? To hide the fact that he has no soul at all.

After demobilization he lived in Rostov-on-Don. He worked in the theater. On Gumilev's recommendation, the troupe was invited to Petrograd. Their collaboration didn't work out; Gumilev was executed by the Cheka. He sold books and loaded coal at the port. He became acquainted with the Serapion Brothers group and wrote poetry and feuilletons. He had a reputation for being a brilliant storyteller, better at speaking than writing.

— Excuse me, do you speak any foreign languages?
- No. Ever since His Majesty declared our nation to be the highest in the world, we have been ordered to completely forget foreign languages.

He gained fame as a children's writer and wrote a wide variety of works: "I write everything except denunciations." In 1940, he wrote a play "Shadow"It was banned immediately after its premiere. In 1941, he wanted to join the militia, but was rejected because of hand tremors. The premiere took place in 1944. "Dragon"And this play was immediately banned.

The work ahead is delicate. Worse than embroidery. In each… you'll have to slay a dragon.

He suffered several heart attacks and died in 1958.
