The State Duma is considering restricting abortions at the federal level.

Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Anna Kuznetsova reportedRegional initiatives to restrict abortions are being developed at the federal level. Kuznetsova has not yet disclosed which specific regional initiatives have attracted the interest of Moscow legislators.

"For our part, we are developing relevant initiatives to protect our families and our children. And, of course, the issues that are being actively addressed in the regions today should also be the subject of federal decisions, and are being addressed at the federal level."
"Ms. Kuznetsova said at the second global forum on interparliamentary cooperation in Tashkent.

As the former Children's Rights Commissioner explained, since next year has been declared the Year of the Family by the President, "family values, the protection of our children, and the protection of our families will become a priority."

Several regions of Russia have already introduced administrative penalties for "inducement" to abortion. Mordovia was the first to do so, followed by the Tver region. Today, November 30, deputies of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Legislative Assembly supported the a proposal to ban abortions in private clinics and introduce penalties for “inducing abortion.”

At the same time, Nizhny Novgorod parliamentarians voted in the first reading for a new regional law "On Measures to Prevent Induced Termination of Pregnancy." The law introduces the concept of coercion into abortion and introduces administrative penalties for this act. According to the new law, abortion will be permitted only after the pregnant woman has seen an ultrasound showing a fetal heartbeat, consulted with a psychologist, and, if necessary, with a lawyer, social worker, and priest. Doctors will be required to inform women about the consequences of termination of pregnancy. The draft ban was introduced by Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin.
