"We won't get anything for another 10 years." Victims of a collapsed building asked Putin to oversee their resettlement.

Former residents house No. 16b on Griboyedov Passage in Ryazan, which in February first it fell apart, then burned, they recorded a video message for a direct line with Putin. They explained that if the president doesn't take control of their situation, they will be homeless within the next 10 years.

For many years, our building was in disrepair. We repeatedly contacted the city administration and the housing and utilities department, but they took no action. Finally, on February 9th, part of our building collapsed, leaving us homeless. — the residents told the background story of their troubles.

After part of the building collapsed, the Ryazan administration resettled the victims in a temporary accommodation facility. There, the "resettlers" learned that many families had been living there not just for years, but for decades—no one was providing them with their own housing. The Ryazan residents of the collapsed building were also not informed about new housing, but were told that the old building would not be demolished until 2034.

“This means we will be living in temporary housing without our own housing for another 10 years,” — they concluded. — We, the residents of the emergency building, are pensioners, and there are also disabled people, and we would very much like to spend our old age in our own home.

One resident said she bought a room in the building using her maternity capital. Now, the family has neither the maternity capital nor housing. Residents also described how carelessly the funds raised for capital repairs were spent: in 2020, the building's roof was replaced, then it collapsed, and only later was it declared unsafe.

They currently live on the fifth floor of a hotel, and some pensioners have a very long commute to their room, with several breaks in between. They approached the mayor's office about renting comfortable housing at the government's expense, but were told, "Where have you ever seen anything like this?"
