"The palace from the old fairy tale is bursting at the seams": Sverdlovsk ballerinas danced in an abandoned cultural center.

An action to draw attention to the old Palace of Culture "Gornyak" in Pervouralsk organized by the photographer together with his team Semen EgorovDespite the freezing building and the "bone-chilling" interior, three ballerinas took part in the shoot.

“The building has been gradually falling apart for a long time, but at one time it was one of the best cultural centers, where there was a cinema, many different clubs, concerts, performances—life was in full swing there,” — Egorov said on his VK page.

The Gornyak building was built by Germans in the 1950s and belonged for many years to the Pervouralsk Mining Administration. Between 2006 and 2012, it changed hands three times, and in 2012, the Russian State Pedagogical University (RSPU) purchased it, but abandoned plans to operate it. Since 2016, the cultural center has been mothballed and is owned by the Federal Property Management Agency (Rosimushchestvo).

"Art belongs to the people"—this phrase graces the stage of the Palace of Culture. A palace that is bursting at the seams, its ceiling is collapsing, it has been set on fire, a hint of neglect, an aesthetic of alienation. A palace from an old fairy tale.»- shared by photographer Alina Maksimich.

Incidentally, the event was also attended by the Public Chamber of the Sverdlovsk Region:

"Once again, we see that Rosimushchestvo is failing to fulfill its responsibilities as the owner—it's not ensuring the building's security, and a security post hasn't been set up yet." — the deputy chairman of the chamber commented on the filming Vladimir Vinnitsky.
